Jesus is Awesome! -- Bryan Galloway
What a thrill it is for me to be the Senior Pastor of
HarveyOaks Baptist. I actually attended this church in high school, and returned to Omaha 25 years later when the Lord made it clear I was to become the senior pastor. My family and I love living in the great city of
Omaha(even though we moved here from
Hawaii!). Okay, the winters can tend to be long, but spring and fall are awesome.
Favorite Quote: "Don’t be content to guide people among the foothills of his glory. Become a mountain climber on the cliffs of God’s majesty, and let the truth begin to overwhelm you so that you will never exhaust the heights of God." -- John Piper
Favorite Books: Desiring God and Let the Nations Be Glad by John Piper, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, I Am Third by Gale Sayers, and Spectra: Mirror Universe Saga #1 and Dark Victory: Mirror Universe Saga #2 by William Shatner.
Favorite Music: I grew up on classic rock and love almost anything from Bob Dylan or Steeley Dan. While living in
HawaiiI fell in love with Hawaiian music and some even consider me an aspiring ukulele player. Praise & Worship music is a daily constant in my life through CDs, Internet, and radio. My favorite hymn is “More Love to Thee, O Christ”. Keith Green, who was killed exactly one month before Lois and I were married, continues to have an impact on my walk with Jesus.
Best Comic Strip: Calvin and Hobbes.
Biography: I was born in
Council Bluffs,
Iowa, and grew up in
Omahagraduating from
Millard
High Schoolin 1977. It was during ninth grade that I felt God’s call to become a pastor. During my sophomore year in high school, I was invited to attend a youth group at
Westwood
Baptist
Church (now Harvey Oaks Baptist) and through the teaching of youth pastor Greg Carlson, I became a follower of Jesus.
Upon graduating high school I enrolled at
Bethel
College where I also ran track and cross country. During my junior year, I was blessed to meet and began to date Lois Anderson. We were married shortly after graduation. I finished my Master of Divinity Degree at Bethel Theological Seminary West where Lois’ father, Dr. Clifford V. Anderson, was the Dean of Students.
After graduating, I was called to become the pastor of First Baptist Church of Dannebrog. Dannebrog is a town of around 350 people in central
Nebraska. Our children, Jon and Ali, were born there. In 1993, I accepted a call to become the pastor of
Calvary
Churchof the Pacific in
Aiea,
Hawaii. Then, in 2001 the Lord made it clear that we were to move back to Omaha. So, I become the pastor of the church I was saved and baptized in: Harvey Oaks Baptist. It was 8 degrees when we arrived in Omaha on January 2nd, 2002.Wow! What a great God we have. Really!
Currently, I am pursuing a Doctor of Ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. The track is The Preacher & The Message under the leadership of Dr. Haddon Robinson.
